Empty Shelves

You may have noticed a new trend in gaming called downloadable content (or DLC).  This provides the user with the convenience of staying home and retrieving new and/or game content.

If we take a look at the near future you can probably see that there may be a media missing, the actual game disc.  No to say this will really happen, but if you think about it, it’s not that farfetched.  Imagine going to a Gamestop to pick up your new GTA or Zelda or Madden (whatever you crazy kids play these days) and instead of being handed a new fresh disc and case you are handed a piece of laminated cardboard with a random line of letters and numbers.  Nothing to look at and nothing to put on your shelves!

What would come of humanity?  How would we feel if we were actually given the feeling that we were just another number?  Would that mean the gaming industry would be turning its back on the us gamers?  Unless everyone is given the gift of the internet, there will always be a disk or something of the sort.  Again, we don’t know if this would ever happen, but what if?
